North American climate racism, contradictions of US and Canadian climate change policy & global inequity

November 7, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Speakers:

  1. T.E.J.A.S, Houston, TX: Juan and Bryan Parras
  2. Organización Boricua, Puerto Rico
  3. Indigenous Climate Action Canada: Heather Milton Lightening
  4. Indigenous Environmental Network: Kandi Mossett

In the US, we are in the middle of a rightwing backlash that has launched a series of attacks against our communities.  From the Muslim Ban and increased ICE raids, to the executive action undermining the powerful campaigns that had stopped the DAPL and KXL pipelines, and the appointment of a cabinet of racist, anti-worker, anti-feminist, climate deniers, we are facing a direct backlash against the most inspiring social movements of this generation.   This workshop will feature speakers impacted from the expansion of fossil-fuel development and fossil-fuel pollution, including organizers from the frontlines of Texas flooding and refinery emissions, the KXL and Dakota Access pipelines, the Bakken fracked oil boom in North Dakota, and the Canadian Tar Sands. We will also speak to US climate debt and responsibility to finance adaptation, mitigation and renewable energy technology for developing countries as a fundamental global climate equity issue.
